Jordan Harbor Cleanup Complete!!

Thanks to the help of our friend Ed Kwarta, and the NPCA for providing the boat, 44 more bags of garbage has been removed from our shorelines. It weighed in at 573 pounds!!

This waste is from the fishermen that use the areas under the QEW bridges where nobody provides garbage removal. It piles up, and continues to pollute our lakes. Not all of them are contributing to the problem. We have met a lot of people this week that slowly try to help by removing a bag at a time. Its just too much for anyone to do on their own.

The Green Herons and Ed have spent all week climbing in between rocks, through tall grasses, and into thorn bushes to strip every piece of garbage from this amazing ecosystem.

The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority stepped in to help remove the trash as hiking it out to road access would have been an impossible task for our youth.

1 of 3 boat trips needed to transport the trash

The kids also have a request in to Niagara’s Conservation Officers to help manage this growing concern. This event brings their 2023 total to 96 bags of garbage removed from the Niagara Region.

The Green Herons would like to thank everyone in the community that does pack out their waste and asks that they start watching and helping to report the many that still continue to walk away.
