First of all I want to give all the families that came out to walk the street a HUGE thank you for your time and commitment to protecting our tiny friends.
We had a slow, spaced-out start but eventually rescued similar numbers to last season. We pulled 12 painted turtles off the road alive, but sadly still had 16 crushed.

We pulled 4 snappers off the road alive, found 1 actively nesting, and installed 7 snapper nest cages.
We also released 12 snapping turtles that were hatched by the Ontario Turtle Conservation Center, and drove 2 turtles all or part of the way to the hospital in Peterborough!
All between May 2nd and June 26th!! That’s a wrap for 2023. Volunteer applications open in April 2024 for next season & remember you can contact us for nest caging anywhere in the region.

Meet Bumper – a happy release day for this painted turtle from Fort Erie. Probably our last of the season but you never know…
Also!! A reminder that ‘tis the season for snapper hatchlings. We dont get many on our street, but be aware that the snappers usually have September birthdays so watch the roads near ponds and creeks.
