Our Niagara Butterflyway

Our Niagara Butterflyway has hit it’s goal of 60 gardens in 3 years. But we aren’t stopping there. We want every property in Niagara to plant native and won’t stop until we ‘Bring Back the Bugs’! Check out the map here. We have spring and fall garden projects that we need your help with! Check out the Earth Day videos below for more information on how you can help plant with us.

The Great PawPaw Parade

For the past 2 years we have been invited to be a host for the Great PawPaw Parade with Carolinian Canada. The Green Herons, Niagara Nature Tours & The Friends of Richmond Street Forest have been able to bring over 80 rare Pawpaw trees to Niagara! Canada’s only native tropical fruit!! We are hoping that funding continues for this program and we hope to see everyone again this fall. Also, make sure to track your habitat through Carolinian Canada’s In the Zone Tracker so that we can see your impact! Thanks to a true native pawpaw seed donation from a friend of the Green Herons, we will be adding a healthy stock of native Pawpaw trees to our greenhouse this spring.

Turtle Hatchling Walks & Nest Cages

Our turtle program has grown annually since 2022 including educational training programs, road rescues for painted and snapping turtles, nest cage construction and installation, and injured turtle taxi services for the OTCC. Training programs start in April annually with volunteer opportunities throughout May and June.

Earth Day 2024 – Bring Back the Bugs!

This Earth Day we are asking for your help!! Watch our video on why we need YOU to plant native. Check out our garden guides, and help us collect seeds, grow plants, and GIVE THEM AWAY! Niagara needs pollinator pathways that connect us all. Let’s work together to Bring Back the Bugs. Together we can!

Also, don’t forget to track your habitat progress through our Butterflyway Map & Carolinian Canada’s In The Zone tracker so we can watch our impact grow!
